Out in the wombat pen at Mum’s place with Winker and Chilly — the ultimate bush barbers ✂️🐾 These two reckon my dreadlocks are fair game and are always chewing on the ends, so I guess I never need to book a haircut again. Free trims, bush-style. Out bush in outback New South Wales, wandering the scrub and checking out critters 🌾🦎 Came home, peeled the shirt off… and found a big tick latched straight into my neck 😬 At first I thought I’d somehow given it ADHD and supercharged it just by letting it bite me 😂 Turns out nope. That’s just kangaroo ticks. These things are naturally quick movers, way faster than any ticks I’ve dealt with down in Victoria. Normally, I’d always recommend freezing a tick off with a proper tick removal freezin

Having another counselling session today with my little troublesome wombat Braxton 🐻 — just two blokes talking about our feelings. He’s still a bit upset, the alopecia’s running strong and he honestly looks like he’s got no pants on now 😂 He’s still losing more hair, but on the bright side, he’s putting on some good weight. So while his condition’s improving health-wise, the hair loss from stress and alopecia is still giving us a run for our money. We’re trying some new creams and formulas, bu

Walked outside and found Ashlee with Amber’s good hair comb, fully focused, giving her guinea pig the most meticulous butt-mullet grooming session you’ve ever seen 🪮🐹 This little pig was absolutely living for it. Eyes half closed, zero complaints, peak spa-day energy. Some of these guineas here get the full royal treatment thanks to our tiny free-range guinea farmer who takes her job very seriously. Honestly cracks me up every time. Guinea pigs are just built different… attitude, fluff, and a

This is Ashley’s morning before school… and it’s a bit different to most kids. While everyone else is just worrying about their hair, school books and lunch, Ash is running around making sure her little possums are fed, clean and happy before she heads out the door 🐾💚 But honestly, it’s the best thing for her. Having animals gives kids such a good sense of responsibility. It teaches them care, consistency and that you’ve got to show up every single day, even when the jobs get a bit boring. Lif

While most people were waking up to the first day of the New Year with a sore head and a dusty hangover, I was already heading off to work. But before that shift could even begin, there were pens to clean. Enter Steve-O. Every time I sweep something up, he’s attacking the broom like it personally offended him. When he’s not doing that, he’s jumping straight into the dustpan like he’s helping… but very much not helping 😅 Makes it an absolute mission to get anything done, but it’s hard not to lov

Little Braxton, our wombat with alopecia who looks like he’s running around with no pants on, is actually coming along really well 🐻😂 He’s eating his grass and all his food, settling down heaps, not stressing out as much, and his hair is even starting to grow back in a little bit. Proud of the little fella 🐻💚 What’s testing, though, are these magpies that absolutely scream the house down the second you walk outside 😂🐦 They nag you for food worse than Ashlee asking for lollies on a Saturday

We’ve had a lot of requests for an update on our little male wombat Braxton, so here it is 🤎 Braxton came into care about three months ago after he was found alone in a farmer’s paddock. Sadly, it’s believed his mum was shot, and somehow this little bloke defied all odds. At that stage he should have still been on milk, but he survived on grass alone, doing whatever he could to stay alive. By the time he came into our care, he was in really poor condition and extremely stressed. He’d even lost

What started as a simple job cleaning up the nature strip after a big tree fell and blocked the road turned into something else entirely 🌳🪓. I cut up the wood and as I was stacking it in the paddock at night, I reckon I ran into just about every dangerous critter Australia could throw at me. First up was a Victorian wood scorpion 🦂. These guys are relatively rare down here in Vic. They’re not deadly, but they pack a serious sting that can cause hours of pain, swelling, and throbbing — definit

Yesterday I posted a little throwback of Ashlee from a few weeks ago feeding all the fledgling magpies we’ve had come in lately — most from the vets, and a couple I’ve collected myself after they’d been clipped or hit by cars. 🐦💛 I’ve seen a few comments saying the magpies didn’t look injured and shouldn’t have been taken away from where they came from. Totally fair point — but just remember, I’m the one grabbing them from the vets. Other people might make the wrong call originally, but once t

In the backyard of the rural property we’re staying at here in outback New South Wales and look who decided to make an appearance 👀 This is one of the resident Stumpy-tailed lizards that lives in the backyard and he is an absolute ripper specimen 💪🦎 Ashlee was absolutely stoked to see him and honestly, even for me, these guys never get old They’ve got a lot of similarities to our Blue-tongue skinks, but the armour-plated body, that short chunky tail, and the sheer muscle mass in their jaw is

Meet Trumpy, one of the finest free range guineas on the block 🐹✨ With a toupee that could stop traffic and a butt mullet worthy of a shampoo commercial, he’s got presidential presence 😂 Today he got a bit cranky because the other guineas, especially the little Mexican guineas, were climbing through the fence for a cheeky snack 🌽 But out here on the hobby farm, there’s no room for politics or walls, just kindness, nature, and critters all getting along 🤝❤️ We’re about equality, free feed, an

I don’t think you can get much more Australian than this 🇦🇺😂 Cruising through a remote stretch of outback New South Wales, I caught a bit of movement out of the corner of my eye. Pulled up for a look and found an absolute ripper of a stumpy-tailed lizard tucked up inside a juvenile emu carcass 🦎🪶 He was clearly scavenging, either chasing a feed or the bugs that were having a go at the carcass. Unfortunately there wasn’t much left food-wise, but he’d made himself a pretty good shelter from t

Little Sandy update 🤎 The tiniest wombat we’ve got in care at the moment has officially started to fur up, and she’s just beginning to poke her head out of her pouch to see what this big wild world is all about. She’s still super fragile at this stage, but she’s going really well. A proper little furry meatball 🥔🐻 Drinking heaps of her milk and growing stronger every day. A few baby wombat facts for you: • Wombat joeys are born at around the size of a jellybean and develop inside mum’s backwa
