Coatimundi Pool Party at @catalinastatepark Repost: @azstateparks Coati (co-wha-tee) be kittin’ me! 😍 This Coatimundi fam has been dominating our wildlife cam at @CatalinaStatePark and we’re not mad about it! Coati are in the raccoon family and their babies are called “kits.” 🦝 After birth, they live with just mom for about 6 weeks and then all return together to the larger social group of coatis they live with, called a band. In our parks, coatis are most commonly spotted at Patagonia Lake, T

Coati you know? Coati isn't short for coatimundi! Coatimundi means "lone coati" in Guarani and is used to reference male coatis who are typically found alone. Check out this video to learn more fun facts about coatis!

I spent my morning with a new crew of coati! This group is curious and not afraid....this one was heading over to check out my backpack (no, I didn't have food with me.) I had to grab my bag and tell him no as I backed away. 😂 More photos and video to come. 📍Arizona #coati #coatimundi #raccoonfamily #wildanimals #curious #desertlife #animallover #cuteanimals #mymorning #animalvideo #moretocome | Stacy Outdoors

I can’t believe I got to see coatimundis in the wild. They’re the rarest animal I’ve ever seen in Arizona. They live all the way down to Argentina and they’re a part of the raccoon family, though their tails are much longer. They’re diurnal and they eat insects. They’ll eat anything, snake, tarantula, lizard, but they like grubs and different insects the most. They’re beautiful animals. If you happen to see one, well, you’ll have done better than I have the last 30 years I’ve lived here. #coati

Wait… coatis in the U.S.? Yep! Chiricahua National Monument is home to the white-nosed coati, a curious cousin of the raccoon and a longtime resident of Arizona. Always on the move, these playful foragers dig for bugs, snack on acorns, and nose around for anything tasty. Large groups, like the one seen here, are usually females and young, while adult males prefer the solo life. Visitors often spot them chasing, climbing, calling, and playing. Since they sometimes gather along roads, please drive
